Botanical Fern Pressings

The ferns are hand-picked and pressed in my workshop. They are presented on white mountboards and displayed in a black aluminium A3 frame with glass overlay for a contemporary look. The botanical fern pressings are professionally framed locally in Settle, North Yorkshire.

Pressed botanicals will fade over time. However, they will never lose their beauty and shape. A moment captured in time forever.

The fern pressing should be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.

All products are package in Kraft paper secured with twine and packaged in biodegradable packaging peanuts or biodegradable bubble wrap within a cardboard box. If any plastic material is used for packaging it is material that I am reusing from deliveries I have received.

Prices include free delivery.

Sold in the UK only.

Flower Cyanotypes

Invented in 1842 by John Herschel, cyanotype is a 180-year-old photographic printing process that produces prints of a dark blue colour. The botanist Anna Atkins used cyanotype printing in 1843 to create an album of algae specimens, Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions.

Cyanotype is a process involving exposing two chemicals to sunlight to create a photographic record, or ‘blueprint’. Anna Atkins found that placing pressed plants onto the treated paper created impressively detailed blueprints of botanical specimens.

Created in my workshop, using my own pressed flowers and ferns, each composition is a one-off and completely unique. I hand paint the solution onto archival paper so that the brush strokes are evident in the final composition. The pressed flowers and ferns are then positioned onto the paper, placed under glass and then they are exposed to sunlight. The paper is then rinsed in water and left to dry for 24 hours.

The cyanotypes are A4 or A3 size and come unframed.

The flower cyanotype will be carefully packaged in a biodegradable cello bag and then placed into an envelope with hard backing.

When framing, it is recommended that the cyanotype does not come into direct contact with the glass. For instance, adding a mount board. When hanging your original cyanotype artwork, it is best to place the cyanotypes away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Prices include free delivery.

Sold in the UK only.
